PSM

What is PSM?

PSM is Porsche's electronic stability control – the system other brands call ESP. Sensors measure steering angle, lateral acceleration, yaw rate and wheel speeds. When PSM detects developing instability – the beginning of oversteer or understeer – it brakes individual wheels and cuts engine power if required.

PSM modes on the circuit

In Sport or Sport Plus the system allows considerably more lateral movement before it intervenes – ideal for committed track day drivers. Full deactivation (PSM Off) is reserved for the GT models and only makes sense for experienced drivers: without a safety net you really do have to master vehicle dynamics. Small mistakes without PSM often end in the gravel.

PSM, PTM and PSM Sport

PSM works closely with PTM (all-wheel drive) and PTV+ (braking the inside rear wheel). The systems complement each other: PTM distributes drive, PTV+ supports rotation, PSM keeps the car within what physics allows. Together they form the basis of modern Porsche handling.
