On Ice: Porsche Ice Experience in Lapland & at Katschberg
What is On Ice?
On Ice is our winter program: driving training on prepared ice tracks in rear-wheel-drive Porsches, equipped with 3 mm spikes, with tips and coaching from proven winners. No speed limits, no driving aids, no oncoming traffic — just you, the ice, and the limit.
The principle is the same at both locations: private, groomed ice tracks, small groups, daily vehicle maintenance, and locals who know their territory inside out. What differs is the setting — the travel, the duration, and the level of adventure you're looking for.
You currently have two territories to choose from: Swedish Lapland, an hour from the Arctic Circle, featuring a charter flight and a full-service package. Or the Katschberg in Austria, 100 km from Salzburg, with independent travel.

20 years of experience. 3,000 km north, with direct charter flights from Germany or Zurich. 35 kilometers of groomed ice tracks on a frozen lake—including our scale-optimized Grand Prix circuits from Monaco to Spa. 2,000 spikes per car. At night, the special stage: a timed lap against the clock, under the glow of the headlights. Afterwards, dinner by the lake, and with a bit of luck, the Northern Lights will dance for you.

Just 250 km from the gates of Munich and 100 km from Salzburg Airport, our Thomatal valley in Lungau is as frosty as it gets, offering a 3,500 m groomed ice track that’s always a fresh challenge. You handle your own travel and book the hotel that suits you best, then start your morning in a drift. Family and friends are more than welcome—some can head off skiing while others fly sideways past the cabin.

Rear-wheel drive & spikes
We love the drift, which is why our rear-wheel-drive Porsche models are in pole position. Well-protected with 4 mm guards on the front and sides, maintained daily, and built by racers for racers.

Instructor always nearby
No helmet requirements, no pressure. Teams are grouped based on experience levels, allowing beginners and advanced riders to learn from the best.

Small groups, plenty of ice
We limit the number of participants. No waiting, maximum driving time. At Katschberg, there is a maximum of 5 cars per training group; in Lapland, a maximum of 4 cars per group.

Package Tour & Insolvency Protection
Your trip is a package tour as defined by Art. 18 of the Package Travel Act and is protected against the insolvency of the tour operator (a member of the Swiss Travel Association). The deductible is €15,000, which can be reduced to €3,000 with an optional deductible waiver.

Frequently asked questions about On Ice
Lapland or Katschberg—which one should I choose?
If you have three days and want the journey to be part of the experience: choose Lapland. If you want to get on the ice quickly, often, and without flying: choose Katschberg. Both offer the same Porsche driving on real ice with an instructor by your side—the difference is the setting, not the quality. Give us a call if you're unsure: +49 6172 923 920.
Is On Ice suitable for beginners?
Yes, both programs. They are designed for both beginners and advanced drivers, with teams grouped according to experience level. Helmets are not required, and an instructor will be in the passenger seat. Everything happens more slowly on ice than on asphalt—which is exactly why it is the best place to truly understand weight transfer, counter-steering, and the ideal racing line.
Do I need to bring my own car?
No. The Porsche fleet is part of the program—prepared, studded, and maintained daily. You only need your driver's license. If you prefer to drive your own sports car, you can find a suitable alternative at CarForGo.
When do the On-Ice events take place?
From January to March, when the ice is stable. During this period, Lapland charter flights depart from Frankfurt, Brussels, Munich, Zurich, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, and Stuttgart. You can find all current dates in our event calendar.
What should I wear?
Casual clothing, athletic footwear, and a thick, breathable jacket. Also, thermal underwear, a hat, a scarf, and gloves—and definitely sunglasses; if you wear glasses, a spare pair is recommended. For outdoor activities in Lapland, you will be provided with specialized winter gear on-site: an Arctic overall, boots, and heavy-duty gloves.
What happens if something breaks on the car?
When using our fleet, your deductible is €15,000. With our optional deductible reduction, this drops to €3,000. All vehicles are equipped with 4 mm thick steel protectors on the front and sides, and our snow walls are groomed multiple times a day, making vehicle damage virtually impossible.
Can my companion come along?
Yes. In Lapland, our Special Guest program turns it into an adventure of its own—including flights, a superior double room, a husky tour, and two hours of personal coaching on the ice. At Katschberg, your companion can join as a non-driver; access to the training grounds and catering are already included in the price.
What happens if the weather or ice conditions don't cooperate?
Sometimes nature decides that conditions are better suited for other adventures. For these cases, we offer our ESC alternative program in Lapland: snowmobile tours, husky sledding, or ice fishing. Additionally, our ice tracks are measured for thickness using sonar once a week.
