FAQs — Lapland

Asked again and again

Transparency is important to us. To do this, we would like to answer your first questions in advance and give you
Describe your program and services using our detailed event information.
Enjoy your driven moments.
INTERESTING FACTS

You will travel with us around 3,000 km in the far north about an hour from the Arctic Circle to Swedish Lapland. The Swedish “Norrland = Lapland” is roughly the size of Germany with just 1 million inhabitants.

When you arrive at Arvidsjaur Airport, please actively visit the ESC check-in counter. Our ice angels will welcome you there. You can use our shuttle service to all destinations such as hotels or ice tracks, the journey takes around 20 minutes.
Our exclusive ice center has 4 lodges for groups of 10 — 30 guests, spread over 15 km2 and will inspire you with over 30 km of varied routes. With small teams of guests, we ensure a “private feeling” and personal service.

Payment for your participation covers the partial use of the vehicle fleet, training including coaching, the flight, your hotel stay and hospitality. To pay for your possible optional additional services on site (skidoo tours, alcohol, etc.), we recommend using an EC or Mastercard.

The entire organization of the event is relaxed, and the interaction is friendly and service-oriented. The dress code is sporty-casual. During your entire stay with us, the focus is on driving. The focus is on short breaks, little theory and a lot of active steering wheel. If you are in the mood for outdoor adventure tours, you can make your choice during the booking process. Local third parties who know our schedules will then contact you directly.

For a deeper first look, visit youtube A variety of unanimous vlogs under “ESC Lapland”, although there are also advantages to being surprised. Many positive guest reviews speak for themselves. Let yourself drift!

FLIGHT

Through our travel partner Polarflights.se Charter flights to Arvidsjaur are available from January to March. The departure times are selected to make our programs and your travel times the best possible or to connect them with shuttle flights from Germany and across Europe. The base HUB for these flows is Frankfurt International and, repeatedly, Brussels, Munich and Zurich. Three times a week, our ice camps in Arvidsjaur are very well connected across Europe. But in March, we are using industrial connections with Stuttgart, Hanover and Munich.
‍
Polar flights are generally processed in Terminal 2 in areas D/E in Frankfurt. Attention, many shuttle flights arrive in Terminal 1. For the transfer from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, we recommend taking a taxi — taking approx. 5 minutes if you have enough advice. If a shuttle flight is being used, please allow at least 90 minutes of transfer time and only travel with hand luggage, as the luggage cannot be checked through. An identity card or passport must be presented to check in. It is not possible to check in online on our charter flights. When you arrive at the airport, please search for the flight number on the display board and visit the check-in counters named there. The display is often only displayed 120 minutes before departure.

ARVIDSJAUR

Arvidsjaur is a town in Swedish Lapland and is located about 110 km south of the Arctic Circle in central Lapland. The Swedish Lapland region covers approx. 110,000 km2. —> about ¼ of the whole of Sweden. There are around 4,000 lakes in the district of Arvidsjaur. The municipality has approximately 8,000 inhabitants. The region is also home to around 25,000 reindeer, some brown bears and elks.

Elks have a shoulder height of up to 2.30 m and can weigh up to 800 kg. —> They are also called the king of forests in Sweden. In contrast to reindeer, they are more solitary and can reach top speeds of up to 56 km/h. To avoid collisions with vehicles, roads in Sweden are elevated.

With the long winter months from November to mid-March and the average temperature of -13 degrees, the Arvidsjaur region offers the automotive industry perfect conditions for the largest automotive test laboratory in the world. It is also known as the Erlkönigs' autotest Mecca. With the accompanying darkness in these months, people used to place a candle in each window for orientation before there was electricity. Even today, you can see a lamp or candle in the windows of houses in almost every window. The typical red paint on the wooden houses is called Swedish or Ealu red and dates back to the town of Falun. There is a copper mine there, which has now been shut down, where the color pigment was extracted. The red color became popular as it is reminiscent of high-quality brick buildings. It has become the standard color for wooden houses in Sweden.

When the sun can be seen for a shorter time in winter, the magical, dark “polar nights” begin. The auroras called “aurora berealis” are a true natural phenomenon. Aurora borealis are created when electrically charged particles from the sun collide in the Earth's atmosphere. The green, red, or purple colors depend on the type of gas particles involved. When it's dark and the sky is clear, you can catch a glimpse of the bright colors that can be seen in the sky on a small lake just a few minutes' walk from the hotel.

ACCOMPANYING PERSONS — SPECIAL GUEST

You're very welcome. However: The hotel industry is simple, the food like at IKEA and wellness or a guarantee of polar lights unfortunately does not exist. Shopping — NOPE. The time on the ice for that... INDESCRIBABLE.

Whoever accompanies you: Enjoy private, two-hour personal training, dog sled tours or snowshoe hikes and spend an extraordinary time with you/us. With the optional Special Guest Package — see booking — we do everything we can to make your companion's time eventful — now it's your turn!

CANCELATION

We are limiting our starting places. This means that all costs, such as ice centers, personnel, logistics and office services, are spread over a maximum of 40 cars. If pilots cancel their participation now, the distribution is no longer correct and we would have to cancel the event.
‍
We do not want that and therefore our cancellation conditions apply:

up to 30 days before departure 40% of the travel price, but at least 200€
up to 8 days before departure 70% of the travel price
from the 7th day before departure 90% of the travel price

If you book as a business customer, then your cancellation conditions are as follows:
up to 60 days before departure 80% of the travel price
100% of the travel price from the 59th day before departure

For more details, see our TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

ARE WE SUSTAINABLE

Please decide for yourself. Lapland stretches across four country borders: Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The area of Swedish Lapland consists mainly of forests or lakes and, at 350,000 km², corresponds to that of Germany. The population density of Lapland compared to the EU average is only 2%, which certifies that Lapland has one of the best CO₂ balances in the EU. A comparison of the average annual temperature:

Africa = 22°C
USA = 14°C
China = 12°C
Europe = 9°C
Lapland = 1°C
World = 15°C

A small population and little industry, an associated lower per capita income (-15% compared to Germany) and extreme climatic living conditions explain the region's strong interest in developing tourism.

CO₂ EMISSIONS*
0.01% of our atmosphere is enriched or polluted with automotive CO2 emissions. Car: 1.3 billion cars travel around the world every day. If our car stops today, we can calculate the CO2 savings, but not the impact on climate change.

Annual EU CO₂ emissions: ø 9.2 tons per capita
Annual ESC Ice Driving CO2 emissions: ø 1.75 tons per capita — including flight, local transfers and training trips

Around 2,000 km² (0.2 hectare) of our natural local sinks (forest, bogs, fields, lakes) are sufficient to record your Lapland footprint, your CO₂ emissions (1.75 t), to then grow as forests and meadows with these CO₂ emissions — and to store these emissions.
Global Greening (the world is getting greener) Our ice center in Lapland covers an area of 15,000,000 m². This covers the CO2 foot print of 120 local residents, 1,500 ESC Lapland guests and employees, and a further 5,000 EU citizens.

By visiting us in Lapland, you are bringing us what we are missing in the region:
Prosperity and security in a climatically problematic environment for us “Norrländer”. That is another reason why we call you “Välkommen”.

Don't forget important medications as well as your ID card, money & credit card!
