What is PCCB?

PCCB (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brake) is Porsche's optional carbon-ceramic brake system. Instead of grey cast iron discs it uses discs made from carbon-fibre-reinforced ceramic – around 50 % less unsprung mass per wheel, far higher heat resistance and extremely low wear in normal road use. You can recognise PCCB by its yellow brake callipers.

Advantages on the circuit

On track the PCCB plays to its strengths. It withstands temperatures of around 900 °C without fade, meaning no loss of effect under repeated heavy braking. The lower mass improves how the suspension responds and sharpens both steering precision and grip build-up. Standard steel brakes reach their thermal limit far sooner on long circuits such as the Nordschleife.

PCCB in daily use and its limits

In everyday driving you mainly notice less brake dust and quiet operation. But the PCCB is sensitive when cold, needs heat for its full bite, and can damage the discs during aggressive track use with worn pads. A replacement disc costs five figures – an important factor both when buying the car and when running it on track.
