What is open pitlane?

Open pitlane is a trackday format that gives you maximum freedom: the pit lane stays open for the whole session and you decide when to go out and when to take a break. There are no fixed start times and no split into vehicle classes – just you, your car and an open circuit.

Benefits and challenges

The biggest advantage of open pitlane is flexibility. You set your own rhythm, rest when you need to and use the circuit as often as you like. The format suits experienced drivers who want to manage their own learning curve. It also asks for more self-discipline: you have to watch tyre temperatures, brake wear and your own fatigue. On track you will meet cars running at very different speeds, from newcomers to semi-professional drivers.

Open pitlane versus timed sessions

With timed sessions, drivers are split into groups and run in fixed windows. That reduces the speed differences on track but limits your flexibility. Open pitlane suits drivers who want to maximise their track time and can cope with changing conditions. For newcomers we usually recommend starting in the guided format before moving into open pitlane.
