What is the Porsche 911 GT3?

The Porsche 911 GT3 is the road-legal track day sports car from Zuffenhausen and the foundation of the GT family. Unlike the GT3 RS the GT3 remains usable every day, without aerodynamic extremes and with a slightly softer setup. At its heart is the high-revving 4.0 litre flat six with 510 hp and a 9,000 rpm limit, arguably the most emotional engine on sale today.

Engineering and chassis

The GT3 uses a modified double-wishbone front suspension, rear-axle steering, optional PCCB and a fixed rear wing. You can choose between PDK and a manual gearbox: the manual is a cult choice among purists, while the PDK is around a second a lap quicker. Carbon components bring the weight down further.

GT3 versus GT3 RS and Cup

The GT3 is the ideal bridge between road and circuit. The RS turns everything up: more aerodynamics, a stiffer chassis, less weight. The Cup car shares the same engine but has a sequential racing gearbox instead of PDK, and no road registration. If you want to drive every day and still belong on circuit, the GT3 is the answer.
