What is the 911 Carrera S?
The 911 Carrera S is the performance classic of the 911 range: a rear-engined sports car with 480 hp from a 3.0 litre twin-turbo flat six. Unlike the GT models, the Carrera S is a genuine everyday companion, with a high-quality interior, occasional rear seats and real touring ability, yet it is still strong on circuit at the limit.
Carrera versus Carrera S
The base Carrera produces around 385 hp, the S around 480 hp. Both use the same 3.0 litre flat six, the S with larger turbochargers and a sharper calibration. The S also brings comfort and performance options from the factory: a bigger brake system, optional Sport Chrono, PSE and a more focused chassis.
On the circuit
With Sport Chrono, optional PCCB and a good set of tyres, the Carrera S is a serious track day car. It is not as uncompromising as a GT3, but it is easier to drive, quieter and more usable every day, which makes it ideal for track day beginners who do not want to jump straight into the GT world.
