Ice Driving
What is ice driving?
Ice driving is a specialist form of driver training on prepared ice and snow surfaces. With minimal grip you experience vehicle dynamics in slow motion: oversteer, understeer and load-transfer reactions happen at low speed but follow exactly the same physics as on a dry circuit. That makes ice driving perfect training for car control – and an experience you do not forget.
Why train on ice?
On ice you learn what takes fractions of a second on asphalt: how does the car react to oversteer? What does understeer feel like? How do I catch a load-transfer reaction? On ice these situations unfold slowly and can be repeated again and again. The training builds muscle memory for extreme situations – skills that are worth their weight in gold both on the circuit and on the road.
Typical ice driving locations
The best ice driving is found in Scandinavia and in the Alps: frozen lakes in Lapland (Sweden and Finland), ice tracks in Austria such as the Katschberg, or purpose-built facilities like Driving Center Finland. The season is short – typically January to March, depending on weather and ice thickness.
