What is Spa-Francorchamps?

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps lies in the Belgian Ardennes and is widely regarded as one of the finest and most demanding circuits in the world. It is 7.004 km long with 19 corners, including the legendary Eau Rouge / Raidillon. Spa hosts Formula 1, the WEC, the Spa 24 Hours and countless one-make series.

Layout and highlights

Spa has everything: Eau Rouge climbing away from La Source, the flat-out Kemmel straight, the awkward Bus Stop chicane, Pouhon as a fast double left, and Blanchimont, where speed is largely a question of trust. Around 100 metres of elevation and the changeable Ardennes weather make the circuit even less predictable — it can be raining at one end of the lap while the other stays dry.

The Eau Rouge myth

The most famous corner sequence in the world: after La Source the track drops away, turns left through Eau Rouge, climbs immediately through Raidillon and crests blind at the top. Modern Formula 1 cars take it flat out; in a GT or road-legal sports car it remains a genuine test of nerve. Spa is legendary for drivers and spectators alike.
