Insurance Excess / Deductible

What is the excess?

The excess - Selbstbeteiligung in German, usually abbreviated to SB - is the share of a claim you pay yourself before the insurer covers the rest. With an excess of 5,000 euros and damage of 20,000 euros, you pay 5,000 and the insurer pays 15,000. On trackday policies the excess is far higher than on a normal motor policy: circuit risk has its price.

Excess levels on trackday policies

Typical excesses on track day cover run between 2,500 and 15,000 euros. The level depends on the value of the car, the circuit (the Nordschleife carries a higher excess than a driver training centre), your experience and the tariff you choose. A higher excess means a lower premium - but more exposure for you.

Weighing cost against risk

The right excess is a personal decision. Could you find 10,000 euros if it went wrong? Then a high excess saves you premium. Do you want maximum protection? Choose a lower excess and pay more per day. Bear in mind that a spin into the barrier can easily cost 30,000 euros or more - which puts the excess into perspective.

A transparent excess at ESC

At ESC CarForGo events the excess is stated clearly - no hidden clauses. You know before you book what the worst case looks like. For many drivers that transparency is exactly why they choose ESC: fully insured Porsche cars with a risk you can calculate. Ask us about the terms.
