NLS (Nürburgring Endurance Series)

What is the NLS?

The NLS (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, formerly VLN) is the German endurance championship held on the Nordschleife. It runs nine to ten rounds a year, each lasting four to six hours. It is the direct feeder to the 24-hour race, and professional teams use it for testing and setup work.

The classes

As at the 24 Hours: GT3 (SP9), GT4 (SP10), TCR, cup and SP classes for privateers. Factory GT3 teams fight for the outright win while cup and trackday-minded drivers compete in cheaper categories. Around 150 to 200 cars start each round, and that variety is the strength of the series.

Why it is worth following

The NLS offers real competition on the most famous circuit in the world at a moderate budget. Privateer teams can enter and occasionally take the fight to factory outfits. For spectators, watching a four-hour race with 150 cars on a Saturday is remarkable. For trackday drivers, a weekend spent at an NLS round is the better kind of schooling.
