What is the Nürburgring 24 Hours?

The Nürburgring 24 Hours is the largest 24-hour race in the world, run on a 25.378 km combination of the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit. More than 200 cars in over 20 classes take the start, from factory GT3 crews to privateers in cup cars. The race is held every year in May or June in front of around 240,000 spectators.

The classes

The field is huge and deliberately mixed. Factory GT3 teams from Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari fight for the outright win, while GT4, TCR, cup and SP classes carry privateers in everything from near-standard saloons to lightly modified sports cars. The quickest GT3 cars lap in 3:55 to 4:00, roughly twice as fast as the entry classes, which makes handling traffic the defining skill of the race.

What trackday drivers can learn from it

A 24-hour race is a masterclass in consistency, error management and setup work. Watching professionals deal with traffic, weather and darkness shows how much circuit knowledge normally stays invisible.
