What is launch control?

Launch control is the electronic launch function on PDK Porsche models fitted with the Sport Chrono package. It holds engine speed at an optimum level while brake and throttle are pressed together. When you release the brake, the gearbox converts full drive torque almost instantly – without spinning the wheels and without load spikes through the drivetrain.

How the perfect start works

Requirements: Sport Plus active, PSM in Sport or Sport Plus, car stationary. Press the brake firmly with your left foot, go to full throttle, wait a moment while the engine settles, then release the brake and go. In a modern Turbo that means 0–100 km/h in under 3 seconds, in a Carrera S around 3.5. Repeatability is the real strength: the same professional sprint time after time.

Limits and purpose

Launch control loads the clutch and drivetrain noticeably. Porsche permits a limited number of full launches over the life of the car, after which the function becomes more reserved. It is ideal for acceleration comparisons, sprint events and drag strip nights – on a circuit it only matters for a standing start, because rolling acceleration counts for more.
