What are Touristenfahrten?

Touristenfahrten – often shortened to TF – are the legendary public sessions on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Unlike an exclusive trackday, the 20.8 km circuit is open to everyone during these hours: you pay a per-lap fee, drive out in your road-legal car and experience the Green Hell at first hand. Ordinary road traffic rules apply – officially you are on a one-way toll road.

Rules and particularities

Special rules apply during Touristenfahrten: overtaking on the right only, no timing, no racing. There is no general speed limit, but you share the circuit with every kind of vehicle, from motorbikes and small hatchbacks to supercars. That mix of speeds and experience levels is what makes TF sessions demanding. Accidents are expensive: normal motor insurance usually does not cover you here, and the Nordschleife has very little run-off.

Touristenfahrten versus an exclusive trackday

During public Touristenfahrten the circuit is busy – with first-time visitors and with regulars who know every corner. No briefing, no instructor, no coaching. Exclusive trackdays on the Nordschleife, by contrast, offer far less traffic, professional marshalling and the chance to get faster and safer with coaching. For newcomers, the exclusive format is clearly the safer route.
