What is the Porsche Speedster?

The 911 Speedster is a strictly limited open version of the 911, with a shortened, more steeply raked windscreen and the characteristic double-bubble rear deck. Unlike the Cabriolet, its hood is intended for emergencies only: lighter, simpler, less comfortable. The Speedster is a purist summer sports car, a model built for enthusiasts.

History and special editions

The first Speedster was based on the 356 in the 1950s. Since then Porsche has repeatedly built limited 911 Speedsters, from the 964 Speedster of the 1990s through the 997 Speedster to the 991 Speedster with its 510 hp naturally aspirated GT3 engine. Every run is a collector's item.

Character and use

A Speedster is about pure open-top driving. These cars are not primarily built for the circuit, even though models such as the 991 Speedster are impressive with their GT3 hardware. Their natural habitat is mountain roads, alpine passes and collectors' gatherings, where the open-air feel and the sound of the flat six are what count.
