GT3 Class

What is the GT3 class?

GT3 is an FIA racing category for production-based sports cars with around 550 bhp, built to a fixed set of regulations. Road cars such as the Porsche 911, Ferrari 296, BMW M4, Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracán are turned into race cars with a bucket seat, roll cage, racing aerodynamics and racing brakes. It is the most important GT ruleset in the world.

Regulations and BoP

FIA GT3 uses a Balance of Performance system that levels out the differences between models. In practice that means adjustments to weight, boost pressure and air restrictors for each model, based on measured lap times. The result is extremely close racing in which almost every manufacturer has a chance of winning.

GT3 series around the world

GT3 cars race in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Spa 24 Hours, the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, IMSA GTD, ADAC GT Masters, GT World Challenge in Europe, Asia and America and the Intercontinental GT Challenge. For privateer teams GT3 is comparatively affordable, professional and attractive: a car costs around 500,000 euros and a season budget starts at a similar figure.
