What is the Döttinger Höhe?

The Döttinger Höhe is the famous flat-out section of the Nordschleife – a 2.1 km straight between Tiergarten and Antoniusbuche. Race cars exceed 300 km/h here, while road-going sports cars such as the GT3 RS sit at 270 km/h and above. The name comes from the nearby village of Döttingen. For many drivers, the Döttinger Höhe is the adrenaline high point of every Nordschleife lap.

The driving challenge

Although it is “only” a straight, the Döttinger Höhe has its traps. After the fast Tiergarten section you have to settle the car before going flat. Slight undulations in the asphalt make the car restless at top speed. At the end waits the slow Antoniusbuche – after all that speed, your braking point has to be spot on. Going from 300 km/h down to 80 km/h takes real confidence in the brakes.

Why it decides lap times
